We know at a club like west ham that's not good enough.

His qualities before United were being a strong old fashioned defender. You can maybe just about get away, in a possession based team that plays with a press and high line , with that with his lack of pace with some good decision making and positioning .

Countless times he’s been out of position or drags the defence out of positions, challenges a ball he has no chance of getting and opens up gaps behind him. I’ve seen him do it a few times for England, actually surprises me a bit that Southgate persists with him tbh.

Maybe it’s a psychological thing for him at this point and he will benefit from playing a deeper line in a less ball playing squad like moyes.

Personally I think he’s too far gone, his already stuck in mud pace has reduced, confidence shot to pieces and sometimes struggles to even do the basics. Anything more than 20+ million pounds for him and we would have done well. (Though I would happily let him go on a free just to get the his stench out of the dressing room)
